Sean Bean to return to West End as Macbeth
03-10-2001
Sean Bean is to play Macbeth in a new production of Shakespeare's
tragedy directed by Edward Hall and produced by Sonia Friedman
and the Ambassador Theatre Group. It is expected to play in the
West End in Summer to Autumn 2002. Sheffield-born Bean is best
known to TV audiences for his role in the mini-series Sharpe and
for playing the gamekeeper in Ken Russell's Lady Chatterley. But
his extensive stage credits include the Royal Shakespeare Company's
Fair Maid of the West and Romeo and Juliet as well as Deathwatch
at the Young Vic and Killing the Cat at the Theatre Upstairs.
Edward Hall recently directed the RSC's Henry V, the Watermill
Theatre Newbury's condensation of Shakespeare's history plays,
Rose Rage and - with his father, Sir Peter - the epic Tantalus
at the Barbican.
